BAY RIDGE — Poly Prep Boys’ Varsity Baseball captured the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS) Championship title, as they beat Hackley 4-3 on Wednesday, May 23. Poly finished the season 24-0, which is the best overall record in the history of the school. They had a 21-0 regular season record and finished as undefeated Ivy League champs.

They had out-of-league wins against Xaverian, Bishop Ford and Tottenville and outscored opponents 276- 70 for the season. Poly also set a school record with 276 runs for the year. Senior Ryan Burke pitched a no-hitter vs. Collegiate.

Coach Matt Roventini said, “The team’s drive and determination, coupled with all the extra time they put into practice, made for an outstanding season.”

The Boys Varsity Baseball team has four graduating seniors. Last week’s article about their season record incorrectly reported that only one graduating senior was on the team. As most of his team returns next year, Coach Roventini believes that the Poly Boys Varsity Baseball is well poised to begin next season on a strong note.

Most recently, the Blue Devils Varsity Baseball finished their season, undefeated, 28-0 [1]. They were Harlow Parker Tournament, Ivy League, and NYSAISAA Champions [2]. The Blue Devils are also the only undefeated baseball program in New York City.[citation needed]
