GAME SUMMARY

POLY PREP 1 -. Telecommunications 0

Sat. April 4th 12:00pm

Location: Poly Prep

At Harlow Parker Field Saturday morning, nobody was comfortable without layers especially the hitters. At winds hit up to 35mph, swinging a bat seemed like the hardest thing to do in all of sports. Telecommunications High School stepped onto the diamond with a 4-0 record…all wins by mercy rule. As Telecomm beat Poly 3-1 in the season opener last year, the Blue Devils were looking for revenge on this Saturday. Poly had Junior J.J. Franco on the mound and there is nobody the Blue Devils trust more than #7. Mother nature proved to overpower everybody’s bat today, as there was zeros on the scoreboard until the bottom of the 7th. As Freshman Matt Caposio drew a leadoff walk, EJ Martinez laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt and forced Telecomm’s first error of the day as the ball was thrown over first base and the runners advanced to second and third. After a strikeout, J.J. Franco drew a walk to load the bases. Richie Carbone came up with a 2-2 count and hit a line drive over the shortstop to bring in the winning and only run. The Blue Devils escape with a 1-0 walk-off win in this battle of Bay Ridge powerhouses. J.J. Franco throws an amazing complete game shutout as he proves himself as one of the best pitchers in the city. Poly moves to 3-1 and will travel up to Fieldston on Monday for their next league contest. Southpaw Richie Carbone will take the mound.
